I'm walking to remember those lost to suicide and help people in crisis

I have faced the devastating pain of losing three loved ones to suicide. September 10th marks the 22nd anniversary of my uncle’s death. Though it has been over two decades, the impact of such a loss continues to bring unanswered questions and deep grief to my family.

This day changed my life, leading me to advocate for suicide prevention and support each year. I will be walking in memory of my uncle, and to remind others that they are not alone.

Each year, over 65,000 Australians attempt suicide, and more than 3,000 lose their lives to it. Lifeline receives over 1 million contacts from people in crisis annually.

Suicide's devastating effects extend to friends and loved ones, and for World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th, I will participate in Out of the Shadows. I will walk to honor the nine people lost to suicide every day.
