Forever in our hearts
I'm walking to remember those lost to suicide and help people in crisis
Just imagine your worst day....everything has gone wrong or felt like it has. You're crying and your gut feels heavy. You cant concentrate and it feels like this bad day will never end. You feel like no matter what you do, nothing is good enough. You feel like everyone hates you or you feel like, you mean nothing to anyone. You're lonely, you cant relate to anyone and no-one understands. Now imagine this is how you feel almost everyday.
Every year over 65,000 Australians attempt to take their own life. That averages about 178 people EVERYDAY trying to end their suffering and over 3,000 of the 65,000, succeeding in that.
These people aren't just numbers, they are your co workers, your neighbors, your classmates, family friends, best friends, uncles, aunties, cousins, Mums, Dads, brothers, sisters, girlfriends, boyfriends, first loves, last loves and maybe you. It doesn't discriminate and you often don't see the signs, if there is any.
Lifeline receives over 1 million contacts from people in crisis each year.
Suicide has a devastating impact on friends and loved ones that doesn't end when the life is taken.
For World Suicide Prevention Day (Sept 10), I will be taking part in Out of the Shadows and walking for the 9 people lost to suicide every day.
And for Christian (a workmate and friend), Sam (a school mate), Michael (my beautiful hug buddy and first sexual experience), Josh (My first real boyfriend and first kiss), Elvis (Our neighbor), Winchell (a coworker), Jessy (my beautiful friends absolute love of her life and a friend). I'm walking for all of my family and friends, who I and people close to me, have been on the phone to for hours every night, up against a door with trying to talk them out of it on the other side, crying at them to put it down; we love you, on rotation to check in on them sleeping on the couch and physically holding down to stop.
This is to the woman who tried to get me to do it for her.
This is real. And it needs to be talked about. It affects us all.
I'm walking to raise funds for Lifeline to provide suicide prevention services and support for Australians in need. For your loved ones.
Please support my walk and sponsor me to help those in crisis.
Together, we can ensure that no one has to face their darkest moments alone and there will always be someone to answer on the other end.
My impact so far
I've raised $82 so far to answer 2 calls for Lifeline's crisis support hotline to connect and bring hope to people in crisis.
With your support, we can ensure that no person has to face their darkest moments alone.
