Archie's Story

He is not a statistic, he is my brother.

Archie has joined Out of the Shadows on World Suicide Prevention Day to walk 9km for the 9 lives lost to suicide every day.
Through his walk he hopes to raise awareness about handling grief after losing a loved one to suicide, and the strength in putting up your hand and seeking help.

Former Brisbane Lions AFL player, Archie Smith, was celebrating his engagement with his three brothers by his side, and 48 hours later his world was shattered when he lost his 21-year old brother, Sebastian (Bas), to suicide.

Archie says Bas had struggled with mental health challenges in his late teens, particularly in his transition from high school into adulthood.

The loss of his brother left Archie devastated and facing his own mental, physical and emotional battles as he navigated his grief.

Archie and Bas were exceptionally close.

"All I wanted was a little brother. The day Bas was born changed my life. He was everything and more."

Archie knows he has to move on, but says he will never recover.

"I love you with every ounce of my being Sebastian and I will miss you every day of my life."

Please join Archie's team and 'Walk for Bas' to remember those lost to suicide and help other Australians come out of the shadows and into the light.
