We're walking to remember those lost to suicide and help people in crisis
It's been a big year for me as I continue on my journey of using my story and my experiences to help others. Last year I hosted Rabo's RUOK? 2023 event - organised the whole thing in less than a week. Almost 400 showed up (about 150 in person and the rest online) I couldn't believe it.
Then, a few months ago I became
an RUOK? Ambassador which has been amazing. I have met so many incredible
people (fellow Ambassadors, board members, staff etc). I had my first
presentation on Monday at a consulting firm in the city and I have two events
tomorrow.
This year I took the Lifeline Out of the Shadows Walk to work. I set the fundraising target at $500…once it passed $3,000 I stopped updating it! In honour of World Suicide Prevention Day, 37 of my colleagues walked 9km around the Sydney CBD and we raised over $3,600.
The response to the events at
work tell me that people want to talk about mental health, they want to do
more...but often are not sure how to go about it...there's more work to do.
So - to my family - thank you for
your ongoing support and encouragement and to my Sydney friends (and adopted
family) I know how busy you all are but would love for us to get together on Sunday
15th September at 10am and walk the (almost) 9km around the Bay. That’s 1km for
every Aussie tragically lost to suicide every day.
I cannot believe that next year it will be 20 years since I almost lost my life to suicide. I'm glad I'm here and I'm honoured to do what I can to help others.
Lots of love, Sally
