Lifeline Ballarat is walking to remember those lost to suicide and help people in crisis.
On Saturday, 7 September, Ballarat & District Suicide Awareness Network and Lifeline Ballarat are partnering to host the annual Out of the Shadows walk. This gentle, beautiful, and meaningful walk meanders through the Ballarat Botanical Gardens and along Lake Wendouree, commencing in darkness and walking out of the shadows and into the light. We pause at reflection points along the way, acknowledging loved ones who have died by suicide, and then watch the sunrise together.
Join us as we walk to raise awareness, remember friends and family, and unite in a commitment to prevent further deaths by suicide. Tragically, over 65,000 Australians attempt to take their own lives and over 3,000 Australians lose their lives to suicide every year. These people are our family, friends, and loved ones.
We gather from 5:10 AM at the rotunda next to Pipers Restaurant, and the walk will commence at 5:30 AM. Please dress for the Ballarat weather. Coffee and breakfast are available at the conclusion of the walk.
If you would like to commemorate a loved one’s name, please send the information to the Ballarat & District Suicide Awareness Network.
There is no need to register, simply join us on the day. If you wish to make a donation to Lifeline Ballarat, be assured that all funds will be used to provide crisis support and suicide prevention services to save lives within Ballarat and surrounding communities.
