Out of the Shadows 2024

When your Tracker pauses....

I set off for my official 9km stomp on Saturday and I was half way home when I realised my tracker had been paused. I was devastated! Does it even count? How will I log that? Should I do it all over again..?

So many questions swirled in my mind as my brain started to catastrophise - then a solution hit me, my apple phone would have counted my steps and converted it to distance anyway, and I hadn't done anything that morning except my walk. Perfect.

Tracking saved!

But it got me thinking, sometimes speed bumps and disappointments do happen along the way of life, and I know myself - depending on how you're feeling they can feel insurmountable. Those feelings of it's "all too hard", "I'm hopeless", "Why am I even here" can weigh an astronomical amount and then combine it with feelings of of guilt and not-enough-ness. I was lucky, I had someone to call when this happened to me.

But sometimes there isn't an option for someone to call and talk to a caring voice on the end of the phone - and this is why I am walking. My hiccup brought me back to the reality of my purpose, I want to fund 10 phone calls for those in need, who need a caring listener on the end of the phone.

Shine the light....

Mental health day 🌻

It’s been a tough morning and I actually needed to take a mental health day myself from work. Hugo a.k.a. my trusted pup and I “leashed up” and went outside to the sunshine. 6.67km in 1 hour 27, pretty good for my first effort! Not too far off my 9km goal 🌻

I'm walking to share my experience and help others

Tragically, every year over 65,000 Australians attempt to take their own life and over 3,000 Australians die by suicide and several times in my life, I could have been one of those statistics.

For World Suicide Prevention Day (Sept 10), I will be taking part in Out of the Shadows and walking for the 9 people lost to suicide every day.

Together, we can ensure that no one has to face their darkest moments alone.

My impact so far

I've raised $519 so far to answer 13 calls for Lifeline's crisis support hotline to connect and bring hope to people in crisis.

With your support, we can ensure that no person has to face their darkest moments alone.
